I typically have several go books that I’m reading at any given time. I have a bookshelf at home dedicated to holding the books I should make more time to read. Here are the ones I’m working my way through currently:
Attack and Defense
by Akira Ishida and James Davies
One of my favorites on the middle game. I’m currently reading it for the third or fourth time. I understand new things each time. The authors highlight the difference between territory and power and then spend the rest of the book showing ways for players to increase both. Only now during another repeated reading am I beginning to better understand what is meant. I highly recommend this one for anyone 20 kyu to at least my current strength (8 kyu) and perhaps for those all the way up to shodan. When I reach that level, I’ll let you know how many more times I’ve read this one. This is volume 5 of the Elementary Go Series from Kiseido Publishing.

38 Basic Joseki
by Kiyoshi Kosugi and James Davies
For me, this is a book that I will have on hand for a number of years to come. I’ve been doing light joseki study for a few years now here and there. This book has plenty of material left in it for me. This is volume 2 of the Elementary Go Series from Kiseido Publishing.
